Pastor Notes
I wish to thank Tricia Davis for speaking to us this past weekend on the CDA women’s retreat and encouraging other women to take the time out for themselves and for Jesus. The retreat was outstanding and I wish to thank the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for their willingness to sponsor this yearly spiritual adventure. Special thanks to Jodie Stockwell from the Archdiocese of Kansas City for her willingness to come over to Kentucky and minister to the women of our Parish.
I look forward in the Fall to offering the same invitation to the MEN of our parish as the Knights of Columbus, once again, offer their MEN’s Day of Reflection for the Men of our Parish. It will be a great opportunity for us men to spend a day in prayer before God.
This past Sunday evening I had the great opportunity to celebrate the FAMILY MASS with the students and their families from the CCM. What a joy it was to be with the parents of our students and to once again, thank the parents for instilling, within their children, the importance of our Roman Catholic Faith. I am indebted to Alanna Sininger and the group of students who serve with her in her Leadership/Advisory Council.
Please note: THIS SUNDAY NIGHT IS THE LAST MASS OF THE SEMESTER AND THEREFORE, THERE WILL NO LONGER BE ANY SUNDAY EVENING MASSES AT THE CCM UNTIL COLLEGE RESUMES IN THE FALL.
Next Sunday, I am excited in hosting FIRST COMMUNION SUNDAY at our 11:00 a.m. Mass. This is always a special time of the year for our young people and our Church. Watching the excitement on their faces; seeing them all dressed up for their “Special Experience” with Jesus and in recognizing that this is just one of the many joys of Jesus making himself present to them, is always a very moving moment for me. As a Parish, I ask that we continue to pray for these children; that they may stay CLOSE to Christ and his ways. There are so many troubles/evils in our world today that as long as we stay true, committed and faithful to the Gospel; to the Eucharist; to the Church, we can never ever be uprooted.
As we move ever close to these Summer months, another date that we should keep in mind is SUNDAY, JUNE 2, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the Kentucky Horse Park. This is when the entire FAITHFUL, across the Diocese of Lexington will come together for Mass celebrating the Twenty-Fifth Anniversary of the Diocese of Lexington. This is a wonderful time for our Diocesan Church! Mark the date on your calendar and join us for this once in a lifetime celebration. There will be a reception, free of charge following the Mass.
As usual, let me remind you that I am available to you in my office, via email at fatherjim.sichko@saintmarkcatholicchurch.net or, in cases of an emergency (i.e. death or imminent need of the Sacraments), by phone at 859-623-2989, prompt 3.
See you in Church,
Fr. Jim
